What do you do to relax when you have a lazy day at home?
I video call my 6-year-old nephew! We listen to each other’s stories, play games, share the views out of our widows. I can spend hours talking with him and honestly, that really is the best use of my free hours and those turn out to be my happiest hours! Though due to the time zone difference, it can be a little tricky but we make it work. Another thing I do, is cooking. I planned to try out all the new vegetables that I come across here! And it has been going excitingly well!
What are you most excited about for 2021? Goals?
I am excited as I came back to research after a while and started a new journey here! I hope to successfully progress in my research, learn more and more new techniques to grow in my field. Also, this is the first time I am staying outside of my country and staying without my family. So, I hope to cope with that and enjoy as much as I can!
What techniques do you/will you most often use in your project?
DNA extraction, PCR, microbe inoculation
What's one silly mistake you've made in the lab?
I am still doing a lot of them and hopefully also learning from them! The silliest one so far is- I misread a concentration of a solution during a calculation. So, I totally made a solution with a wrong concentration and actually used that (and obviously, that did not work). The container was right in my hand but I managed to misread that!
What are any current problems you are having with your research?
As I just started, I am still trying to get along with the new environment. Also, I feel like I need to pick up my pace a little but also, I do not want to rush into anything. So, this is a constant duel happening in my mind now a days.
What did you hope to get out of grad school in the beginning compared to now?
Well, I am still ‘in the beginning’ I do hope to learn and improve as a researcher and want to develop some idea or technique which will help the agricultural system in a sustainable way.
