Faculty-Student Mentorship Night
This August the MicroGSA hosted a Faculty/Student Mentorship night with two of the new faculty members, Dr. Aleeza Gerstein and Dr. Gerd Prehna. The goal of this event was to provide graduate students with a comfortable venue to ask questions about the career paths of these two accomplished individuals. The night was a great success with over 20 graduate students (MSc and PhDs) attending. A huge thank you to Drs Gerstein and Prehna without whom this night would not have been possible and who generously gave their time to talk to the students for hours.
We hope that this is the first of many career talks, keep your eye out for future events with professionals from other fields such as industry and government. Or if you have an idea for a topic you would like to see, let us know at [email protected]

Campbell Farm and Food Discover Centre for being such gracious hosts. We look forward to our BBQ next summer!

Trivia Night 2K19
On December 12, 2019, MicroGSA hosted their biggest annual event of the year: Trivia Night!
A fun-and-beer filled evening saw the department students and faculty, letting their hair down and going all out in their competitive spirit.
The hosts came up with some pretty interesting and quirky questions as the teams assembled with their innovative names. But as they say, the winner takes it all! This year, the Claustrivium tinselii (all puns intended) took home the coveted '?' trophy.

Christmas Door Decorations 2K19
MicroGSA hosted the annual Christmas door decoration contest which once again pitted the labs against each other as they came up with innovative and funky ideas! Sparling Lab took the cake with the least grinchy Dr. Grinch on their door while the Micro office pulled off a classic with A Christmas Carol. Don't worry, the whole event was under 'Elf Surveillance'.
