What do you do to relax when you have a lazy day at home?
I watch a lot of TV shows and E-sports. I also like to game on my PC with friends and to cook food in my spare time.
What are you most excited about for 2021? Goals?
I am excited about graduating this year and moving onto something new in the next chapter of life. My goals are to find a job, buy a new car and also to keep learning bioinformatics slowly but surely. I also want to take a long road trip to east coast of Canada with my partner.
What techniques do you/will you most often use in your project?
I use a lot of classic molecular biology techniques in the lab and I do a lot of RT-qPCR for my project. Currently I’m trying to optimize an assay to measure the reactive oxygen species in A. baumannii.
What's one silly mistake you've made in the lab?
I set the benchtop on fire once. That is all I will say about that. I also used to break a lot of glass bottles and flasks, not so much anymore.
What are any current problems you are having with your research?
Right now, everything is good as I am just finishing up my thesis and focusing on writing up my work from the past two years.
What did you hope to get out of grad school in the beginning compared to now?
At the start I was not too sure as I just went with the flow after undergrad but now I have realized all of what grad studies has taught me. It taught me how to be patient, observant, be nice to others even when you may not be having a good day and also how to stand out when looking for jobs. I will be leaving with more technical expertise in microbiology and life-long friends from the department.
