What do you do to relax when you have a lazy day at home?
I enjoy listening to podcasts or watch Netflix these days. I do love to cook (does not sound very relaxing as I am writing it!).
What are you most excited about for 2021? Goals?
Graduating! That is it, Graduating! Lol
What techniques do you/will you most often use in your project?
I have become sort of a bacterial geneticist in this lab. I use classical genetics techniques like Transductions, Transposon mutagenesis and more modern stuff like Whole Genome Sequencing, using Gibson assembly for gene deletions (a lot of deletions!). And I know a thing or two about growing plants.
What's one silly mistake you've made in the lab?
Oh boy! Where do I begin? I would not a be a graduate student if I have not made a gel with water instead of buffer or ran it in reverse. Forgot to add agar in media. Trust me there are many more.
What are any current problems you are having with your research?
Proteins! Do not like working with proteins (apologies to my peers who love protein work)
What did you hope to get out of grad school in the beginning compared to now?
I wanted to learn, and that is a constant. I like to think I have come a long way but there is a lot more to learn. I am excited about the future.
