What do you do to relax when you have a lazy day at home?
I usually spend the day working on a puzzle, I have a whale puzzle right now, and watching Netflix with my cat.
What are you most excited about for 2021? Goals?
I’m excited for things to start opening again so that I can get to know Winnipeg better and go exploring when the weather is nicer.
What techniques do you/will you most often use in your project?
I just started on my project in January, but it seems like I will be doing a lot of protease assays and slow killing assays with C. elegans.
What's one silly mistake you've made in the lab?
Calculating the wrong amount of solution multiple times in a row, until I needed to take a break before I could come back to it and calculate it properly. I’m good at complex math, but simple math always seems to trip me up.
What are any current problems you are having with your research?
I don’t think I’m having any specific problems right now, but there definitely is a learning curve coming from my undergraduate degree. There are so many different techniques and little things that I’m still learning about, it’s a lot to take in.
What did you hope to get out of grad school in the beginning compared to now?
I can’t really speak to how things have changed since I just started my graduate degree a little over a month ago, but I’m hoping to get a lot of lab experience from grad school. I’m also hoping to get more of a feel for how it is to work in a lab for a longer period of time since I didn’t come with a lot of previous work experience.
